November 2025 — At a Glance
November 2025 was dominated by two big multilateral moments on the diplomatic calendar and a run of Indian success in world sport. The G20 met in Johannesburg — the first time the grouping gathered on African soil — while the UN climate talks, COP30, opened in Belem on the edge of the Amazon. Away from summitry, India lifted its first ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, the 2025 Booker Prize went to David Szalay, and New York elected a young mayor of Indian-Ugandan origin.
1. Summits & Conferences
Fix three things per summit — the host city/country, the theme or main outcome, and India's role. November's two headline gatherings both carried a 'first': the first G20 on African soil, and the first climate COP inside the Amazon rainforest.
Major summits, November 2025| Summit | Host & date | Key point |
|---|
| 20th G20 Leaders' Summit | Johannesburg, South Africa · 22-23 Nov 2025 | First G20 Summit on African soil; theme 'Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability'; hosting then passes to the USA for 2026. |
| COP30 (UN Climate) | Belem, Brazil · Nov 2025 | First COP held in the Amazon; India pushed adaptation finance and climate equity for the Global South. |

2. Awards & Honours
- Booker Prize 2025 — British-Hungarian author David Szalay won the 2025 Booker Prize for his novel *Flesh* (announced Nov 2025). The Booker is awarded for the best novel written in English and published in the UK or Ireland.
- 53rd International Emmy Awards — The 53rd International Emmy Awards were presented in New York (Nov 2025), honouring the best television programming produced outside the United States.
3. Global Sports
- ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 — India champions — India won its maiden Women's Cricket World Cup, beating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai (2 Nov 2025). India, the host, posted 298/7; Shafali Verma top-scored with 87 and, with Deepti Sharma, starred with bat and ball. It was India's first title after runner-up finishes in 2005 and 2017.
- Why it matters — The win — India's first World Cup in women's cricket, on home soil — is a landmark for the women's game in the country and a recurring exam fact: host India, beat South Africa, first title, Navi Mumbai final.

4. World in Brief
Recognition-level only — the leadership change and the conflict that led the headlines this month. Just enough to place the fact in a question.
- New York City elects Zohran Mamdani — Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election (4 Nov 2025). Of Indian-Ugandan origin and in his mid-30s, he became the city's youngest mayor in generations and its first Muslim, South-Asian-origin mayor — a widely noted result in the Indian diaspora.
- Sudan — RSF seizes El-Fasher — Sudan's civil war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) worsened; the RSF seizure of El-Fasher in Darfur drew reports of mass atrocities, deepening the world's largest displacement crisis (Oct-Nov 2025).
