Age limit and relaxations
You must be at least 21 and under 27 years old on 1 July 2026. SC, ST, BC (non-creamy layer) and EWS candidates get up to 5 years more, and there are further relaxations for Andhra Pradesh government employees, ex-servicemen and some other groups.
Read the age section of the notification for the exact years that apply to you and the proof each relaxation needs.
Educational qualification
The Sub-Inspector post needs a degree from a recognised university. SC / ST candidates who have passed Intermediate and studied a degree are also eligible. The written exam reflects this: the SI General Studies papers are set at Degree standard and the Arithmetic at SSC standard.
Physical standards (PMT and PET)
Meeting the age and education rules lets you apply; you must also meet the physical standards at the PMT and clear the PET after the Prelims. The SI and Constable notifications use the same standards.
