How the Constable selection works
The Andhra Pradesh Police Constable recruitment, conducted by SLPRB AP, runs in three stages. You clear one stage to reach the next.
- 1. Preliminary Written Test — One objective (OMR) paper of 200 questions. Qualifying only — it shortlists candidates for the physical tests.
- 2. Physical Measurements & Efficiency Tests (PMT / PET) — Height and chest (men) or weight (women), then the PET — a 1600 m run plus the 100 m run or long jump. Qualifying for Civil posts; PET marks count for AR / SPF posts.
- 3. Final Written Examination — One objective paper of 200 questions in 3 hours, on the same syllabus as the Prelims — it decides the merit.
Preliminary written test pattern
The Constable Preliminary Written Test is a single 3-hour objective (OMR) paper of 200 questions for 200 marks, at Intermediate standard, covering English, Arithmetic, Reasoning, General Science, History, Geography, Polity, Economy and current events. It is qualifying only.
There is no negative marking in the SLPRB, Andhra Pradesh written tests (as per the 2026 SI and Constable notifications): a wrong answer simply earns zero, so never leave a question blank. Our mock tests score the same way, +1 for a correct answer and 0 otherwise.
| Paper | Subjects | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|
| Preliminary Written Test | English, Arithmetic (SSC standard), Reasoning / Mental Ability, General Science, History of India & Indian culture, Indian National Movement, Indian Geography, Polity & Economy, current events | 200 | 200 | 3 hours |
Always confirm the exact number of stages, marks and qualifying cut-offs against the official SLPRB AP notification for your recruitment year.
Constable syllabus at a glance
Prepare these areas thoroughly. Every topic below has bilingual study notes on AP Police Hub, many of them free.
- English — Grammar, vocabulary and comprehension — part of the Constable written tests (the English questions stay in English in every version of the paper).
- Arithmetic — Number system, HCF-LCM, percentages, ratio & proportion, averages, profit & loss, simple & compound interest, time-speed-distance, time & work, and mensuration.
- Reasoning — Coding-decoding, series, analogy, blood relations, direction sense, seating arrangement, syllogisms, and non-verbal reasoning.
- General Studies & Science — Indian Polity, History, Geography, Economy, everyday General Science, and Environment.
- Andhra Pradesh — Andhra Pradesh Movement and State Formation, Andhra Pradesh history, geography, economy, society and culture.
- Current Affairs & GK — National, international and Andhra Pradesh current affairs, plus static general knowledge.
A simple study strategy that works
The Constable written test rewards consistency far more than long, irregular study sessions. Build a daily routine, revise what you have already learned, and take timed mock tests every week so exam pressure feels normal.
- Learn the concept, then practise — Read the topic in the notes, then immediately solve questions on it. Understanding beats memorising for Arithmetic and Reasoning.
- Attempt every question — There is no negative marking, so never leave a bubble empty. Answer what you know first, then eliminate and make your strongest guess on the rest.
- Weekly full-length mocks — Take a timed full-length mock every week, then review every mistake. Your weak topics show up clearly in the analytics.
- Revise current affairs monthly — Keep up with the monthly current affairs notes so recent events stay fresh by exam time.
