January 2026 — At a Glance
January 2026 was a month of cultural recognition in Andhra Pradesh. The state made two new State Festivals: the birth anniversary of the early freedom fighter Vadde Obanna (January 11, under a permanent G.O.) and the self-sacrifice day of Goddess Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari, announced at Penugonda. CM N. Chandrababu Naidu opened the Amaravati–Avakaya Festival 2026 at Punnami Ghat, Vijayawada, celebrating Andhra food, culture and Telugu cinema. The CISF announced the Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon–2026, whose grand celebration will be at RK Beach, Visakhapatnam, and Kangundi near Kuppam is set to become AP's first Heritage Village.
1. State Festival — Vadde Obanna Jayanti

- The decision — The birth anniversary of Vadde Obanna will be observed every year as a State Festival on January 11, following a permanent Government Order (GO) that ensures continuity.
- Celebrations — Held at all district headquarters, with the state-level function at Anantapur. The decision was implemented by the BC Welfare Department under CM N. Chandrababu Naidu.
- Who was Vadde Obanna — A pioneering freedom fighter from the Renati region of present-day AP, who resisted British rule much before the First War of Independence (1857).
- Community — He belonged to the Vaddera community, a Backward Class traditionally engaged in stone-cutting and construction.
