Andhra Pradesh's July 2026 economy digest — APEX Korea, the State's first overseas investment centre in Busan; ₹4,100 crore of textile MoUs at Bharat Tex 2026; ₹1.5 lakh crore of MoUs reviving the Kakinada SEZ; a UAE Food Cluster; AP mango exports; Rayalaseema's industrial turn; Kosala Nagaram Industrial Park; and APTDC's green boats.
July 2026 — At a Glance
July 2026 showed Andhra Pradesh chasing investment on three fronts — abroad, in textiles and in new industrial land banks. Minister Nara Lokesh opened APEX Korea in Busan, the State's first overseas investment facilitation centre. At Bharat Tex 2026 the Handlooms and Textiles Department signed MoUs worth up to ₹4,100 crore. The long-stalled Kakinada SEZ drew MoUs worth about ₹1.5 lakh crore, a UAE Food Cluster MoU brought a first ₹100 crore unit to Chittoor, and Kosala Nagaram in Chittoor was planned as the next big manufacturing park. Export data put AP mangoes in demand abroad, Rayalaseema emerged as an industrial hub, and APTDC planned solar-powered and electric boats.
1. External Engagement — APEX Korea, AP's First Overseas Investment Centre
From occasional roadshows to a permanent presence in Busan
- What — APEX Korea — Andhra Pradesh External Engagement–Korea — is AP's first permanent overseas investment facilitation and outreach centre, set up in Busan, South Korea's major maritime and industrial hub.
- Who — Inaugurated by HRD, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh; established by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) as a direct interface with Korean investors.
- Objectives — Facilitate new Korean investment, act as a permanent communication channel, coordinate with State departments, provide aftercare to existing investors and build long-term partnerships — an example of sub-national economic diplomacy.

3. Industry — Renewed Push for the Kakinada Special Economic Zone
Port-led industrialisation after two slow decades
- Background — The Kakinada SEZ (KSEZ), set up nearly two decades ago, was delayed by land disputes, farmer agitations and slow infrastructure; it also came to be called Auro Industrial City.
- New commitments — Fresh MoUs worth about ₹1.5 lakh crore, with potential for 1.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs. Around 1,200–1,500 acres already allotted; about 10 industries running with nearly 15,000 employees. About seven MoUs this year in metallurgical coke, speciality chemicals, green fuels and marine food processing; Korean firms including HD Hyundai have been approached.
- Land — More than 5,000 acres available in one place — suited to industrial clusters.
Connectivity for KSEZ| Link | Status |
|---|
| Kakinada Gateway Port | Near Butchayyapeta, Perumallapuram panchayat, Thondangi mandal — to be functional within two years |
| Offshore Supply Vessel berth | Planned for completion by December 2026 |
| Road | A National Highway under Bharatmala is being laid through the SEZ |
| Rail | New line planned from Annavaram Railway Station to the Gateway Port |
4. Food Processing — A.P.–UAE Food Cluster MoU
A Davos commitment turns into a signed agreement
- What — The APEDB and the UAE Food Cluster signed an MoU at the State Secretariat, Amaravati to set up a UAE Food Cluster in AP, following up a commitment made at the World Economic Forum, Davos earlier in the year.
- First investment — A Dubai-based company proposed a ₹100 crore food processing unit at Gangadhara Nellore, Chittoor district, using AP as an export base for nearly 25 countries.
- Focus — Value-added products from mangoes, bananas and cocoa, and exports of seafood, dairy, poultry and pulses — plus cold chains, export facilities and value-addition centres.
- Why AP — Agriculture and horticulture give about 30% of GSDP; strong aquaculture; shipping via Krishnapatnam and Kakinada ports; and a plan to make Rayalaseema a horticulture hub with proposed investments of ₹1 lakh crore.
5. Horticulture Exports — AP Mango Varieties in High Demand
- What — The UAE remained the top importer of Indian mangoes in 2025–26 (data from DGCIS and APEDA); Indian mangoes went to 52 countries. AP varieties — Banganapalli, Benishan and small Rasalu — saw strong overseas demand.
- AP's share — AP contributes around 8 to 10% of India's total mango exports.
- Constraint — Exporters flagged the lack of advanced post-harvest treatment and international compliance facilities.
Mango export trends, 2025–26| Market | Trend |
|---|
| UAE | Top importer; ₹144.41 crore; shipments up by 11,622 MT |
| United Kingdom | ₹76.09 crore → ₹89.31 crore |
| Nepal | Nearly doubled, ₹9.15 crore → ₹18.71 crore; additional 5,772 MT |
| United States | Declined, ₹95 crore → ₹82 crore (tariff-related issues) |
6. Regional Development — Rayalaseema, an Emerging Industrial Hub
From a rain-shadow drought belt to a manufacturing destination
- Background — Rayalaseema lies in the rain shadow area of the Deccan Plateau. Its early industry was cotton ginning and textile mills, mineral units in the Kadapa–Kurnool belt, cement plants (Dalmia Bharat, Zuari), the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant and ultra-mega solar parks in Kadapa and Kurnool.
The new industrial push| Sector | Projects |
|---|
| Automobiles | KIA Motors plant in Anantapur; proposed Royal Enfield plant near Tirupati |
| Steel | JSW Group's integrated steel plant in Kadapa district — first phase 1 MTPA |
| Defence | DRDO's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft integration & flight-testing centre at Puttaparthi; Bharat Forge defence energetics at Madakasira; HFCL high-precision ammunition unit in Sri Sathya Sai district |
| Space | Proposed Space City near Sriharikota, India's only rocket launchpad |
| Core manufacturing | New industries taking shape in Sri City |
- Why it is happening — Vast land, policy support and investor outreach, ease — and 'speed' — of doing business, the State Investment Promotion Board, and an existing base of power, cement, solar and auto units. Food processing is seen as the bridge from horticulture to industry.
7. Industrial Parks — Kosala Nagaram Industrial Park, Chittoor
- What — AP plans to develop Kosala Nagaram Industrial Park in Chittoor district as a major manufacturing hub for automobile, textile and food processing industries, through the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).
- Land — APIIC owns 2,042.13 acres and has been told to acquire 5,000 acres more; 500 acres earmarked for a private industrial park; about 200 acres already allotted.
- Location — Near the Tamil Nadu border, the Chittoor–Tachur National Highway, Krishnapatnam and Kattupalli ports, and Chennai and Tirupati airports. Automobile makers from Ambattur (Tamil Nadu) have shown interest.
- Water — In-principle approval for a balancing reservoir; water to come from the Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) project, expected by December 2028.
- Model — Planned on the lines of Sri City in Satyavedu constituency; private participation is being considered for costly land levelling and basic infrastructure.
8. Tourism — APTDC's Solar-Powered and Electric Boats
- What — The AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) plans to introduce solar-powered and electric boats at tourist destinations in a phased manner, to cut dependence on fuel-based vessels.
- Wider plan — Expand boating, promote tourism projects through the PPP model, develop caravan, beach and experiential tourism, and improve food quality at APTDC hotels.
- Caravan signal — APTDC held its board meeting aboard a caravan travelling from Vijayawada to Suryalanka Beach.
