January 2026's Andhra Pradesh economy digest — the 20-Point Programme chairman's 2025 review (₹8.55 lakh crore of approved investment, Amaravati and Polavaram funding, welfare transfers), the foundation of India's first and the world's largest green ammonia project at Kakinada, and CM Naidu's natural farming pitch at Davos.
January 2026 — At a Glance
January 2026 opened with Andhra Pradesh taking stock of 2025 and pitching itself to the world as a clean-energy and clean-food economy. The Chairman of the 20-Point Programme Implementation, Lanka Dinakar, credited a "double-engine" government with fast-tracking Amaravati and Polavaram, approving ₹8.55 lakh crore of investment and scaling welfare transfers. CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan laid the foundation of India's first and the world's largest green ammonia project at Kakinada, and at the World Economic Forum (Davos) the CM projected AP's natural farming model — 18 lakh farmers on 20 lakh acres — as a global green-agriculture hub.
1. Governance Review — 2025 Achievements of the "Double-Engine" Government
Capital, irrigation, investment and welfare in numbers
- Who said it — Lanka Dinakar, Chairman of the 20-Point Programme Implementation (Viksit Bharat – Swarna Andhra Pradesh), said 2025 laid a strong foundation for accelerated growth in 2026, linking CM N. Chandrababu Naidu's Swarna Andhra Pradesh vision with PM Narendra Modi's Viksit Bharat mission.
- Amaravati — Capital works were fast-tracked with ₹15,000 crore of central assistance.
- Polavaram — The multipurpose project received nearly ₹18,000 crore in funding; it is critical for irrigation, drinking water and flood control.
- Veligonda Project (Phase-I) — Nearing completion; expected to give long-term water security to drought-prone regions.
- Investment & jobs — ₹8.55 lakh crore of investment approved in 2025, expected to create 8.23 lakh jobs. At the CII Summit, Visakhapatnam, MoUs worth ₹13.25 lakh crore were signed, with employment potential for 16.13 lakh youth.
- Regional focus — Special emphasis on North Andhra, Prakasam and Rayalaseema.
Welfare delivery in 2025| Scheme | Benefit | Reach |
|---|
| Annadata Sukhibhava | ₹6,310 crore transferred | 46 lakh farmers |
| Talliki Vandanam | ₹10,090 crore disbursed | 67.27 lakh beneficiaries |
| Deepam-2 | Three free LPG cylinders to poor families | Clean-energy access, women's health |
| Stree Shakti | Free bus travel for women | 3.25 crore journeys |
2. Clean Energy — Mega Green Ammonia Project at Kakinada
India's first and the world's largest green ammonia project
- Launch — CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan laid the foundation stone at Kakinada, marking the start of India's green-energy exports to Europe and advanced Asian markets.
- Developer — Implemented by AM Green (Greenko Group).
- Investment & area — ₹18,000 crore (~2 billion) initially; total clean-energy ecosystem investment of 10 billion; spread over 495 acres — India's largest green ammonia complex.
- Industrial revival — A brownfield conversion of the Nagarjuna Fertilisers plant — an example of industrial recycling and low-carbon transformation.
- Policy — Aligned with AP's Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, 2024.
Kakinada green ammonia — capacity and phasing| Parameter | Figure |
|---|
| Green ammonia capacity | 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) |
| Phase 1 | 0.5 MTPA by 2027 |
| Phase 2 | 1.0 MTPA by 2028 |
| Phase 3 | 1.5 MTPA by 2030 |
| Electrolyser capacity | 1,950 MW |
| Renewable integration | 7.5 GW solar + wind; 2 GW round-the-clock power; pumped hydro storage |
- Exports — Green ammonia will go to Germany, Japan and Singapore; the key offtaker is Uniper (Germany) — the first-ever export of green energy from India to Europe.
- Global partners — Supported by Petronas (Malaysia), GIC (Singapore) and ADIA (UAE), with long-term supply agreements.
- Jobs — 8,000 jobs during construction; long-term jobs in logistics, storage, port services, renewable energy and clean-tech operations.
- Uses of green ammonia — Clean shipping fuel, power generation and a green hydrogen carrier — replacing coal, oil and gas with zero-emission energy.
3. Agriculture — Natural Farming Showcased at Davos
AP pitched as a global hub for green, nature-based agriculture
- What — CM N. Chandrababu Naidu showcased AP's natural farming model at the World Economic Forum (Davos), inviting investors, environmentalists and institutions to partner in sustainable food systems.
- The model — A chemical-free, low-cost, regenerative system built on soil rejuvenation, biodiversity, carbon sequestration and reduced water use — nature-based solutions (NbS) instead of synthetic inputs.
- Scale — 18 lakh farmers mobilised and 20 lakh acres under natural farming.
- Climate benefits — Captures carbon in soil, cuts greenhouse gases (especially nitrous oxide from fertilisers), improves soil fertility and saves water.
- Farmer economics — Slashes input costs; farmers see higher net income from the first harvest; addresses inter-generational debt.
- Global markets — AP is fast-tracking international organic certification, export-oriented marketing and technology-enabled price discovery, aiming to make AP produce the first choice in global clean-food markets.
- SDG link — Supports SDGs 2, 12, 13 and 15.
